Marshall the Wine Guy

I recently attended the Everyday Wines tasting event during Midnight
Madness in kerrytown. The store, based out of Kerrytown Market &
Shops, offers a “careful selection of affordable wines”. Heres the
wine we tasted:

Cidre Bouche Brut De Normandie Etienne Dupont 2009 (France, Normandie) $13
Ok so not actually wine, but still delicious. This concoction tasted
like a good cider should, a little bit sour while remaining
refreshingly dry and crisp. Unfortunately at only 5.5% ABV it doesn’t
quite add up to good value.

Le Bois de la Tour Haut Saumaur Les Pouches 2009 (France, Loire Valley) $11
A slightly sweet wine packing a powerful pear aroma. This is a heavier
wine, and the better of the two whites.

Enzo Mecella Pagliano Verdicchio di Matielica 2009 (Italy, Marche) $15
There were some heavy-handed oak flavors in this one, almost a rancid
oakiness like that of heartwood.

D’Oupia Les Heretiques 2008 (France, Languedoc) $12
I had some trouble with this one, so I’ll say it was complex. It
smelled a little musty, not too pleasant.

Cayus Garnacha 2008 (Spain, Campo de Borja) $15
My favorite of the bunch, and the only wine I tried twice. With strong
tannins and a welcoming splash of cherries, this is a great wine for
MI winters. Slightly scratchy as it leaves you mouth.

Lunadora Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2005 (Sangiovese) $29
Overwhelming tannins, and a smokey almost antiseptic aroma, I am
really not sure what they were going for with this one, but it wasn’t
a drinkable bottle of wine.
